Automation is Liberation!

With the future of machines such a trending topic right now, especially given the war of words between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, we can’t help but be drawn to the focus Musk is putting into automating and fine tuning machines in his own factories, as a way of revolutionising his business.

Like many businesses these days, Musk’s Tesla is transitioning from a “product company” to a company focused on the process of delivery – in their case, car manufacturing, with Elon Musk stating that the factory itself is probably more important than the product it’s making.

JKVine recognises this same philosophy in a number of large Australian companies that we work with. In today’s hyper-connected world, ensuring great digital performance is critical. And, as companies look to gain their competitive advantage, we work with them on their DevOps journey to intimately understand the full detail of their application delivery process, and then look for ways to optimise each component.

In particular, the demands of today’s applications mean that traditional, late-stage testing methods can’t keep pace with the speed of rapid application delivery. JKVine integrates automated performance testing into our clients CI/CD build pipeline, to enable performance testing to kick off when developers check in code.

We recently built this Performance Engineering capability for a major bank, reducing what previously took 14 days of human effort down to 30 minutes.

Once a task is successfully automated, human error and human wait times are eliminated. This is central to Elon Musk’s manufacturing philosophy: it’s all about automation and removing inefficiencies, in order to become as productive as possible:

“The machinery, the robots that are building the car should move as fast as they can. They should be moving so fast you can’t see them. That’s why you can’t have people in there because they would get crushed – people move too slow… You can’t have people in the production line itself, otherwise you drop to people speed,” said Musk.

We’re not saying that automation is here to replace everyone – but we know it can make a huge impact on overall delivery speed. The JKVine team are experts at custom building these systems, to optimise your release cycles.
